Hi,Anyone have an Android phone? I have just purchased one after many years with an iPhone (which I vowed never to change). Android is amazing and to me goes well beyond iOS which I never thought could be possible.Well done to those clever people at Google.

I started out with my first phone being an Android & I wouldn't want to use anything else. Reliable, excellent features, all round personally I think the best phones.
I just bought a new one few months ago 5.5 screen Huawei 2GB Ram enough for me, expandable memory card Upto 128GB
I like the feature if changing the brightness, as I have trouble with glare & that way I can have it really dark inside & at its brightess so you can read the phone in full sunlight.
Keep apps running in the background or not set the settings to suit you. Perfect!
Good luck, you won't regret buying one Razorfish.
Cheers

I bought an Android phone a year ago but did not actually started using it until a month ago. Before that I had a run of the mill, simple to use mobile phone that I had for 3-4 years until, now. I know everyone is extolling the virtues of Android phones, they, being equivalent but not better than the iphones. Well, after a month, I am still struggling to enjoy some of its virtues and its taking me ages to get from point A to point B of usages, I guess due to the fact that am not a natural born technically minded person? or the Android phones are made specially for those gifted young ones who could circumvent everything but not for people like me. I am still struggling mind you and hope it does not take till doomsday because I don't think it will operate in the nether region.

Have an Android iOS mobile because this OS is compatible with all the other Chrome based hardware and software that I've got in the home. That way everything can be synchronised together. Just makes life easier when everything is connected and you can use any piece of hardware no matter where you are inside or outside of the home.

Hi..I too have an Android phone and previously had an iphone (which was a hand-me-down and soon 'died' on me). I'm not very mobile phone savvy and have had a few 'hiccups' with the phone but I blame that on my lack of experience with mobile phones. On the whole I am quite happy with this phone. It does most of what the more expensive brands do and is a lot cheaper.

My last two phones have been Android (which spans the past 4 and a half years), and I am just about to buy my next phone, a beautiful new Samsung Galaxy S7. I absolutely love how it allows so much customization, and the ability to use it with pretty much any USB, alongside any other device, the standard jack and the standard charger. Now wireless charging? Amazing. Not elitist, not an unmanageable expense accumulating more expense, great colours, large display, great sound, great camera, great power(processor) - I am sold! Google FTW. I have also seen the evolution of the Samsung Galaxy since my first was an S2, then an S4, and my parents have other Samsung phones as well. I'm happy with how the features have evolved and grown. Great phone. Possibly the only issue I have with smartphones in general is the battery power.

Yea Android is much more efficient then iPhone's. I find Apple products to be very confined, almost creating its own community that excludes other brands connecting with its products.

I prefer an android phone over an iphone mainly because of personal preferences, as I tend to prefer larger phones with bigger screens (ie, Samsung note range), I don't mind so much about the resolution as I don't watch much multimedia so the resolution doesn't play a big factor. Another reason I prefer android devices such as the HTC Sensation or any newer devices is cause their quite durable, as I have seen my friends iphones break from just being dropped or just some forward pressure.

As for the OS, its quite debatable it all depends on what you plan to do with the phone. If your going to use the phone simply as means of communication with the regular app's then iOS is most likely your choice. On top of that there is also a much larger variety of apps avaliable for iOS. As for android, its quite similar in terms of types of app's but the variety is smaller and the app's seem to be less actively updated.

I hope my feed back helps. :D

Android phones are amazing, you can use them for all manner of stuff and some of them are very good when it comes to toughness unlike the iPhone. It is really good for lots of apps that you can't get on iPhone's and a lot of the time you can get stuff you like on iPhone's on android plus other stuff. Android's are the best type of phone around!!!!!

I have two phones running android and an iPhone. I wouldn't say I love either one, but I definitely like them. Android has the freedom of third party apps, and a lot more customization. But Apple have everything finely tuned. Performance wise in my experience, it doesn't matter how much I spend on an android, the iPhone still beats it. Features wise though, either can win.

Anonymous
  • 26th Mar 2014 10:53pm

there are advantage and disadvantage ofcourse, i'm an android fan, i own an s4, but you can't compare an iphone to any android, it depends on the hardware it runs on, the brand, bloatwares and many things.. android is an operating system, like iOS for iphone. android is an open source system, so it's basically like windows xp so you can do almost anything on them.

  • 24th Mar 2014 04:57pm

I went from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S2 (running Android). I was so sick of the Galaxy - and Android - I bought an iPhone 4 off ebay when I had six months left on the contract.
I am a 'tech' person, and people told me that tech people (they used the words 'geek' and 'nerd'!) would prefer Android because of the flexibility and numerous options. I didn't. It just annoyed me. I didn't really like the openness of Google Play (not that the Apple App Store is perfect), plus I think my phone was a bit buggy. It was also a nuisance waiting for my phone service provider to give the 'okay' to each new release of Android before it was rolled out. I had to wait a long time after each release before Telstra rolled out the update to my phone model.
I upgraded to the iPhone 5 when I renewed my contract and haven't had any issues. It really works well for me.

Two things stand out with Android versus iPhone.

: Download ringtones for FREE on Android.
: Download your music for FREE on Android.
: More handset choice.

Conclusion: No brainer, Android everytime

While I love android phones and have always only used them i find sometimes they dont accomodate the apps I like and are only made for apple products. I think it also depends on what sort of android phone you have. I have issues with my phone and I know a few other people have too with that particular brand but if you can find one that doesn't lag or have any issues thats great and yeah in the long run they can be much better use sadly though if it breaks down its not like your given a replacement like some of the time with the apple products.

I have had my first android phone (and tablet) for about a year, and despite being reasonably tech savvy have never been able to get the hang of the phone or the tablet, or get any real use out of the phone other than a number for people to reach me. My tablet gets used as an e-reader and occasional camera.

I can't get the contacts function to let me create more info on individuals such as a 2nd number and address or what role they play in my life eg. plumber.

Downloads take forever, and then disappear so I can't find where they are. Or they don't work. Or when I try to open them they start downloading again.

I can't find a calendar app to replace the one that came with the phone and is unacceptably useless for keeping reminders etc for me.

My favourite games site doesn't offer android apps for Australia.

I can't navigate the web easily, pages refuse to close, the 'keyboard' using touch screen is so finicky even with a stylus I am constantly back spacing.

I haven't even tried to edit or upload my photos because everything is in the too hard basket.

Like I said, I am tech savvy. I've worked in IT for decades, and I am able to do anything I set my mind to on my desktop, there is just too much here that's counter intuitive - at least for a Windows dinosaur like me.

Worst of all, I can't find an inbuilt app for basic note taking or simple lists. And am not sure I want to pay for the only ones I can find online. Surely google.com should have a reputable mini-office or at least word that will work on tablet at least? Why can't I find it?

This is so annoying because, calendar, contacts, alarms and lists are what I have always used phone for. Now I have a million choices to do 1000s of frivolous things, but nothing for the basics.

I've tried Android (HTC) phones twice, between my iPhones. For me, as expected, Android doesn't sync as well as iPhones with my iMac and Macbook Pro. So I'll always stick with iPhone. Also, while Android is known for being flexible, to me that's more of a con than a pro because it makes it really confusing and time consuming when I want something changed (e.g., settings). I know people who use Google a lot would love Android but to me iPhone still works best with my Apple devices and general use.

My personal reasoning for loving android so much is that it so beautifully syncs with all of the Google services I use… I use them ALL. Gmail, docs, chrome, picasa, wave, adsense, youtube...everything. It does it's job really well with the included google apps, they're free, always getting updates and I even have free turn-by-turn voice GPS now thanks to that.

Androids are a very good phone, with a good functioning system. However, so is the iPhone. Being an iPhone user myself i thrive from it, but was all contemplating getting a android. However, the android phone is much better from the iPhone for down loaders as there are no restrictions, whereas iPhone will only let you directly 'buy' music from iTunes legally.

I too have both a samsung and an iphone and the iphone is the original and the best. It is faster, easier to use, does basically anything I need and it looks better.

We also have both platforms in the house, phones and tablets.
We seem to use the apple products more often, user friendly and more compact than the Galaxy 4.

I have never owned a mobile phone & i have no intentions of ever owning one. There was a story on 4 Corners last Monday week showing how your information from your mobile phone is being stolen from you even when you go shopping in places like Westfield at Bondi Junction or any other store you may want to use so they can target you for advertising even while you are driving the state Government is stealing your info via the RTA as you pass their traffic lights
also hackers find mobile phones the easy way to get your personal information so why would anyone want one of these bloody things for???

in some instances people are not aware that the blue tooth or WiFi is active thus it makes an easy target, but then again i suppose they should not store vital info on their phones.
but i have had a lot of phones an i think for all they are they are a must in today's world :) , but this is just my opinion :)

Android OS has been my choice for my 2 phones & 1 tablet to date because of its inherent adaptability.
The open source licence makes it easier for people to make apps, and to refine & improve their user experience even if they're not the manufacturer.
Having the innovative minds at Google behind it to direct the development of software, hardware, and services, also means that Android can offer some great products & services that continue to improve to better meet user requirements.

My Samsung Galaxy S3 4G has been irreplaceable; all the functions of a PC/Laptop. So have just acquired a Samsung Note 10.1 4G for extra capabilities (dual core processor).Have found however that my S3 can freeze some apps occasionally so I often enough 'restart' & this has always restored all functions to 100%.

I used an iPhone for 2 years and when my phone contract was completed it was a choice between a new iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Nokia 920. I used the Nokia for 2 weeks but it has very limited applications so I got a samsung instead. I am now very happy as Android allows me to see information onscreen without opening an app such as mail or calendar events. It also allows me to more freely transfer media such as music and photos from any pc without having to "sync" with only one computer and only with itunes. To sum it up in one word : freedom.

You, me and about 60% of the smartphone market, mate :-)

I'm on my second Samsung. My old Galaxy S was the first phone in twenty years of owning mobiles that I'd have bought another without thinking.

One thing good about Andriod is .. it is not restricted to one type of handset. Which means more features and price to suit your budget. HTC, Samsung, Sony and many brands.

I prefer using Android phone because Apple is the only company that makes iPhones. That is, giving it extremely tight control over how the software and hardware work together. When I find some useful or interesting software, it always can be used in Android system but can't be used in Apple system.
