Anyone ever visited Alaska? We are interested in taking the Marine Highways ship down along the coast, with stops along the way, and ending up near Vancouver or Victoria Island. Would really really love to hear from anyone who has visited any part of Alaska and particularly what time of the year is recommended. We certainly don't want to go in the middle of winter!

I lived in Alaska, Benji, and it's definitely a trip worth making! The cruise is fantastic, you'll get to see the glaciers. Also, if you possibly could do the rail trip over the Rockies through Banff National Park you won't be disappointed! It's worth the extra time. Summertime is June, July, August, but in Autumn (September-October) you'd also experience the gorgeous colours changing. Happy Travels!

Hi Shylady,
Many thanks for your reply. We have already visited a lot of Canada and had thought of taking an Alaskan Airlines flight to Anchorage from Hawaii, then the Marine Highways ferry down to somewhere where Alaskan Airlines flies back to Hawaii and then home to Australia. I have heard that Juneau and Sitka are both worth visiting and that there are rail trips worth taking too. Have you ever travelled on the Marine Highway ferry? It sound great and goes where the massive cruise ship can't get into so maybe some of the small town would be great for an overnight stop.
Also what month do you think would be the best in summer?
Hope you have time to reply.
