I agree, recently my baby had heart surgery, and I found that the donations to the parents lounge in the form of food(cans, or packaged food) were so helpful, as I had to stay with my baby, but food for parents weren't supplied otherwise.
Also I have used the Ronald McDonald house and businesses had spent their time to come and prepare/provide a meal during the week. These meals were extremely helpful, as many parents are spending all day long with their child in hospital, and often don't think of themselves at the end of the day.
