How do you stop a dog doing its business where we don't want her to do it

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is very defiant and lazy! She persists in doing her 'poo' where we don't want it. No matter how often I spray the area with stuff to stop her, she goes back there. We have another dog, 3 legged boxer, who is good as gold and does everything we ask her to.

Using vinegar mixed in a bucket with warm water helps a lot to get rid of the smell and deters the animals from going in that spot again

: Hi
I hope you have solved your dilemma. Do make sure that where the dog has toileted is really really well cleaned and never use ammonia as this smells like someone else's wee to pets.

Put soft drink bottles of water around where you don't want the dog going to the toilet

Hi Trish, Is your Spaniel ok with going outside to pee? if not, you may find it will get her thinking along the right lines if she gets that right first. Take her out shortly after a nap. Feed first thing in the morning works for mine, as soon as you get up, I use a good quality dry food, not too much bulk. feed it soaked to avoid dehydration problems. Take her for a walk till shes "been", then praise her. May take patience and time to break the habit now it's formed. Experiment with diet to find what it takes to make her go only once a day. That will help develop a strong routine. Keep her limited to a "safe area" if possible, while being trained, till she gets the idea. If you can get her to go once a day, you can relax for the rest of the day.I found Pal Puppy biscuits did it for me. It is ok for older dogs, in fact keeps them in better condition on a lesser amount, there -by assisting in bowel control. It also has the added advantage of being composed of rice and chicken, so is good for dogs with skin conditions and allergies. good luck-Simla.
