Over the Last 5 months I have been on a messenger service called Skype, it is on the internet, I have met many good people on this network but I have been discovering some very disturbing things about the country around Ghana, Young women around 17 to 34 years of age are really doing it tough, for some that have jobs life is fine but in most cases I find these woman are very poor and are virtually calling people on Skype for assistance, there is one common problem associated with these woman, they are seeking food to live, going hungry most of the time, they are always asking Me to buy food for them, but I am a pensioner and not in a position to do this, but feel there should be a church group, charity or some other humane society that can help these poor people, I have become friends with many of these people and if I was there in Africa I would do My best to help them, these people are like You and I, but the African Government just turn their backs on these people and it is heartbreaking to me, many sceptics would say they are scammers, if strait money was the cause I would say so, if not, these young people's lives are being threatened and that is a very cruel thing to happen, You would not treat an animal that way. I hope someone is caring like me and could maybe suggest something I could tell My hungry friends in Africa. so I put it to You are you caring like me, do you think these people deserve a better life, if so rally to my cause with some suggestions or ways to help these poor unfortunates, I thank you for listening to My plight. God bless You All.

Hi, I have joined up with KIVA which is a small loan company for people in all of the third world countries. The people go on to Kiva and indicate how much of a small loan they need and why and you then contribute to that loan. Once they repay you the loaned funds you can then reinvest those funds into another loan for someone. People ask for loans for food, clothing, farm or small business supplies. It is a very worthy cause. Perhaps you could suggest to the friends you have on Skype to see if they are eligible for such a program.

Yes there is a lot to be said about honest charities, but I feel the rest of those bad charities they need some sort of Judgement, the same goes to the biggest charity THE GOVERNMENT, yes they steal money frome the people in forms of unjust taxation, when the Prime Minister would volunteer his service for free, We all got a better deal, I feel as long as we bow down to their wims they will continue to milk Us dry, We all need to voice Our opinions and return Australia back to the people, I stand by what I say, I feel these Governments are as corrupt as the come and need a Reality check I will stand and fight them as I do not believe what they do is right, We all need to rally to the cause of Justice and honesty in Our wonderful country, I would love all your feedback on this yes an open question, thank You.

You want to help?

Try kiva.org - microloans. to entrepreneurs in third-world countries. Loans, mind you. About 99% chance of being repaid - but it'll take time. Withdraw any money you've been repaid at any time - or re-lend it to the next micro-entrepreneur. Very addictive - and you get to be very involved with and protective of the people to whom you loan money.

All there on the site. Decide for yourself.

I feel all of you are right the charities have a lot to answer for and need to be audited, they may be using funds for themselves and not those it was intended, it is hard to believe charities are smoke screens for personal gain, it is as bad as the Government ripping off the Taxpayers, they say the money is the Taxpayers, but when it is spending time for some wasteful or unappropriate purpose they spend Our money, so are the Government theives, if so why are they not removed from office and put in prison, isnt that a joke, they should be saying it is Our Money we took from the Taxpayer, do you all agree, Years in the past, Prime ministers used to work for nothing it was totally voluntary, why was it ever changed, any answers to that conunderum, please keep Me informed, and thanks for Your answers on my Question.

Much money is collected, however not much reaches the needy, there are to many CEO's that need to be paid and if you look sometimes in the paper, collectors get between 2 and 300 per week.
It has been stated that one previous Prime minister I will mention no name use to fly in a private plane paid for by the collection monies to wherever he needed to go.
In 1973 when the blind dog had a large collection I saw on the ABC that the total collection had been 6.5 million, the money that was actually given to the Blind dog people was half a million, six million was kept by the firm doing the collecting.
We also hear that every time we the Australian people and Government send food etc. the ware-house are usually raided by the local army or their associates.

I agree with what you say, the greedy people make money and the needy people need money, that reminds me of a certain Government and also other Governments who would not even help their sick mothers unless there was a quick profit in it for them, I believe the Ghana Government should give the women and other neady people some aid of some kind or a chance to be able to work and give the people a reason to live, they have no charities, not even the churches have pity on these people, I feel the winds of change needs to blow in Ghana and other countries where poverty is rife, and turn all this around for once and for all. Thank You for your comment.

I have Skype, but only use it to comminicate with family . There are many deserving cause's . My fist thoughts are if these people are so poor and so in need of food is it not a bit unusual that they have computer resources to Skype with . why only young women, where are the hungry young men ? This may not be the case here , but it is amazing how low some scammers will go to tug at strangers heart strings for money. I prefer to stick to recognised charities such as Heart Foundation, Hospice appeals, kids cancer , etc . Trouble is once you give to any of these they keep mailing you for more donations. so long as you can avoid the guilt trip they try and give you and just donate the amount you are comfortable with and as frequent or infrequent as it suits you .

Skype aparently was designed by a University student, who used it to contact students around the campus, some dating agencies use it and these African women use it, I on the other hand was there completely by accident I was looking for a fast message service, I signed up a Skype account , I never used it until one day I was on the network and I got a contact from a girl, I added her and we became close friends, and we stuck together until a few more contacts arrived, I found some of them come straight out with: Please send me some money for my internet, for a webcam, I am hungry etc, I was starting to get fed up with this I firmly believe there where problems over in Africa and people where starving, the Ghana Government have no provision to help these people and some where really genuine, others where just trying to beg for money, I thought it was time for either a charity or church organisation in Ghana, to maybe operate a soup kitchen, something like Reverend Ted Noffs Wayside Chapel had, over in Ghana for the poor unfortunate women over there, I feel it is not right to let innocent people starve no matter what nationality, colour or creed, that is why I put this topic to Cafe Study, to to try to get some help for the people of Africa, I go on Skype now to Mentor these women and explain how wrong they are to beg and deliberately ask strangers for money or foodstuffs, I am totally against it, and I still try to educate these women, and people who appear to be woman but are men instead, Yes I had one of those on Skype too, but now I occassionally chat with him, he calls me Dad, I like that he has learnt respect for me, even though we through swear words at each other at the start, I reasoned with him and offered to help him with his problems, he never argues now, just chats, I feel I am a good influence to the Skypers, a name I made up Like Trekkers in Star Trek, Skypers, I call them and I have now made Skype like a social network. there are some woman I have become very close to, I share photos with them and chat all the time, we all share a mutual respect with each other, I hope I can help these woman, as I put a lot of time in to help them, I will never offer money they are with Me a s friends and I am not their personal ATM machine, that just is not on. I agree with a lot of what you say, there are a lot of scam mongers on the internet, the way they sell gimmicky software that will earn you millions, you buy a part for say $12, then they ask you to watch a video and you have to buy and pay for the second part then another video in the end You have spent over $100, and you have to because the earlier software won't work without all the components, that in my opinion is a business scam, and should be outlawed all componets should be viewed first and the one price should then be offered, it is selling by deception and is totally wrong, there are 2 of these still operating and it is definately Buyer Beware. I believe they need some sort of Internet Police on the job to close down these type of sellers. Thank You Mal for answering my question and hearing my views I really apreciate it, Cheers.
