Go for the products with no ammonia! They may not last as long and not give as strong a colour, but they are less damaging to he hair folicles

Yes they are safe but if you want to get the best out of your products while your at the hairdressers ask them which is best and which will be best for your hair type

It depends, honestly every type is different. however whether the products are safe for you in general is a different question. Personally, I used to ignore the try it briefly tip because I assumed all colorants were the same, blah bah blah. So I'd suggest to try it on a small bit, generally at the underneath back layer of hair, this way you can find out how your hair and skin will react. I'd also recommend sticking to the brands that you see or hear a lot about, not the random ones that just show up.
You'll also often hear that if you are continuously dying you hair it will kill it, this is somewhat true but I'd argue the differ as I am constantly changing my hair, and dramatically like from blonde to vibrant red to black and back to blonde then brown ect. My hair has coped really well, I just use Pantene shampoo and conditioner and apply a night treatment before bed when my hair seems to be looking dull.

i would say not all hair products are safe, i can say that coz i have been dying my hair for 8 years having to bleach my hair blonde and always do my regrowths i tell you my hair use to be healthy and long now its dead and had to cut it short so i can grow again its been 3 months and my hairs is still not growing how i want it. Using so many products didnt help my hair at all as i have been to so many hairdressers they advise not to use too many products to allow my hair to breathe therefore i am starting to use 1 product only till my hair grows.

Hair products are only safe if not used too often. I used them quite often at one point and i regret it as it damaged my hair very badly, making it very dry. It was difficult to redye my hair and its just been harder keeping my hair healthy

i am a hair dresser, like every other woman in my family, i think that you need to find a really good salon, with amazing credentials, and book yourself right in. there is nothing scary in the dyes, you are not going to wake the next morning with a bald head, or looking like an alien, i promise.

No! Too many chemicals

I think that they're safe provided that you follow the directions exactly and do a skin test first. It also is essential that you choose the right colour too though - a black haired individual will have terrible results if they purchase blonde hair dye! It's important to read all the information thoroughly. That said, they're an excellent way to colour your hair for those who cannot afford going to the salon.

I always use natural hair dyes from some plants. Consequently, I do not worry about hair colour prooducts safe.

Of course hair colours are full of chemicals but when they are used appropriately and professionally and then the after care is made, can be completely safe and even beneficial to some hair.

I have only had my hair coloured once - for a special occasion to cover the white hair amongst the auburn (the hairdresser said it is white not grey) My hairdresser asked the day I made the booking if I had ever had it done before. When I said no she suggested that she put a little on my arm to see if I had any reaction at all. Fortunately I didn't but I wouldn't have it done again as the fumes from it were so strong I nearly vomitted and felt nauseus for a few hours afterwards. It was too cold and windy to go outside while waiting for it take affect.

They're fine, unless you're pregnant, or against chemical use in your hair....there are always natural alternatives, such as Henna.....

I only prefer to go to hairdressing salons and get my hair coloured there.

yes they are fine to use, although the more you layer on colours on top of already dyed hair I find that hair tends to shed a lot more and feels rough
(I am basing this on pre purchased hair dye packets from supermarkets)

Hello , I believe when needing your hair colour done always go to a hairdresser they are professionals, also they use good products that wont damage your hair.Trying to attempt to do it yourself at home you are putting yourself at risk . you can cause problems to yous scalp . A hairdresser does this everyday and knows what to do , just always advice them if you have an allergic reaction. leave the rest up to the experts.

depending on what you are allergic to. there is a test you can do to see if you are allergic to anything. just rub some behind your ear and leave it for about 30 minutes. if nothing happens it should be fine, you only leave the hair dye in your hair for about 15 - 20 minutes anyway. most hair colour products these days don't react to many because they have taken the ammonia out of them. but if you are unsure do the test to find out.

Hair colors are not safe or healthy.....having said that I use them......it's silly because I know the chemicals in them cause cancer.........but still I don't like to be grey........I know there are natural ones but they don't work the same. Vainness and common sense don't go together at all.

Safe in what way? Safe for your hair? If you are colouring your hair darker it's generally less likley to cause breakage. trying to lighten your hair is when it becomes damaging.

I am using hair colour from last 4-5 years and i don't have any problem in my scalp or hairs due to hair colour, even we don't have any problems still we can't say that all hair colours are safe to use after all they are chemicals so they may damage our hair or scalp to some extent whether that damage is noticeable or not.

I believe most hair products are safe. I've been colouring my own hair for roughly 13 years now and never had a problem. I do get an itchy scalp when using bleach but I guess that's expected when using such a harsh chemical on your skin. Everyones skin sensitivity differs. My advice would be to test the colour on a small patch of skin before applying a full head. If you know you have very sensitive skin then avoid colouring your hair at the roots and maybe highlights only :-)

Babs you are correct most colours are very safe there were a few in the professional line of hair care where there were rumours of carcinogens... Loreal for one. However that was mainly for hairdressers as they had there hands in the product all day. Not so for the client usually only every 6 months.. If you do have a reaction take and antihistamine immedietley and you should get a result straight away if not take two.. If allergy persists go to doctor.. I buy the way am a professoinal hairdresser. Good Luck,,

For me, it's depends on the brands name and quality of the hair colour products. my hair was not easily to dye so i'm so cautious in choosing the hair colour products because i might be used to dye several times in half a year.

My hair is naturally light brown, but about once every month I dye my hair natural/dark natural brown. I have never had any problems with my scalp or dry hair. My older sister however uses anti dandruff and/or sensitive skin shampoo and that seems to help :)

hair colour products such ad bleach is ok only if you apply a little bit if you apply to much your hair may start to fall out or you with kill your hair. and products that they sell in the supermarkets aren't very healthy for your hair they are ok just for a one off such as a formal or something like that but if you continuously do that your hair will die.

After many years of using red dyes in my hair, even ntural colourants from the health food stores, I put up with itchy scalp to no end, Now with 70 % grey hair, I use blonding dyes and have found I now longer have the itchy scalp
