The amount of money around today means players are playing on much longer. Even 10 years ago you would have been tapped on the shoulder retire or be dropped. Ricky Ponting is a case in point he is allowed to bat where he wants and the considerations given him he isn't giving to the new players. When he started he batted5/6 and worked up the order Shaun Marsh is expected to come off injury and bat 3 the place for your best player. Michael Clarke has got a lot right this summer but not this he is to close to the situation another reason Ponting should have retired when he stepped down as captain. The new players deserve the same chances to improve their game batting down the list.

If you have the skills, the right mentality and are as fit as they are then you would eventually earn the money.
