Are children in primary school given enough home learning..Is spelling enough? I just want to know what other schools do as I am disappointed that I have to generate a lot of the home learning with my boys and hoped more would come from the school rather than interactive wiki's and e-learning..

Wow this is a tricky one - to do homework or not? As a retired teacher I must admit I had reservations about how much homework we were to give primary kids. I think for junior classes that having set reading is a very good idea and hopefully encourages children to enjoy a book. Spelling words is another good set homework, but do not make the list too long. Senior kids really get the homework piled on and can this can cause a lot of stress. My two girls had that much homework when they were at high school I used to wonder if they actually did any work at school! I never had to bully my girls into doing their homework as they were keen to get it done. I did used to worry about how much there was though. As parents we should take care that we aren't stressing our kids out over homework - don't forget they have been at school learning for long hours and then have to face more work after school. I used to ensure my girls had a break after school before they got "stuck" into school work again.

I agree with that my boys school doesn't seem to give them enough either my boy in grade 7 has not had homework all year and i think that its wrong as he will need it for grade 8. teaching thru the internet is not teaching at all homework didn't do me any harm

Thanks for that Salty.. I just don't get it..I understand home research is important but the notion that all learning can be conducted through group learning and nothing at home is not realistic and I see much more emphasis on mufti days, gold coin dontiona, dico's rather than actual learning.. Iowuld not mind helping with my sons homeowrok but he gets spelling to do and reading and that is it.A lot of parents send their chilren to KUMON and other after school programmes but that costs
