do you think its wrong to feed a cat that is always over at our house,i first thought it was a stray cat as it is as thin as a stick ,i dont have a cat my self ,my last cat died 4yrs ago ,its a very friendly cat and it seemed really hungry and i could not reject it so i started to feed it,as the cat sits in front of my lounge window and it can see my dogs inside ,i think it wants company ,it will sit there all day ,one day my grandchildren came over and they love to play and pat the cat and the cat really likes the attention as well,i found out it does belong to some one down the street,it does go somewhere at night but turns up reall early in the morning every day ,do you think i should stop feeding it or keep on feeding it i dont give it a lot of food ,but it upsets me to see it so skinny ,and im not a person that refuses any animal food ,would like to hear your opinions

I fed my neighbours cat when it was just a little kitten and for two years it stayed with us but then one day he finally decided to go back to his own home as my other two cats were ganging up on him.The only reason I fed him was because he would wander in to my house every day and find a place to sleep and would never leave and me being a huge cat lover felt sorry for him,he wasn't getting the love and attention he deserved from his "real" owners and you could clearly see that from the sight of him being riddled with fleas and under fed.I still to this day worry about him but know he will not come back here with my other two cats around.

My wife and I have 2 cats of our own, but every morning and sometimes during the day the 2 cats from next door turn up for a feed. We started feeding them because our next door neighbour used to go away fro 2 or 3 days at a time and just left some food for them in his garage. Both these cats were very unfriendlt to start with and one would actually attack my wife and I, however since we have been feeding the they are much more friendly with just an occasional spat. They are so much more at ease that sometimes they will let us pick them up. NELLY2 you keep on feeding the cats as you are already doing, never feel guilty.

I have a cat and a dog ... my dog has allergies so I would be annoyed (greatly annoyed .. said politely) if someone feed her .. my cat .. he is a piglet, and cats will give smooches to anyone that feeds them, plus they are not that loyal .. but I do think that you have to be careful feeding someone else's animal, do you know that animals history? is it sick? does it require a specific food? A friend of mine complained to me about 2 years ago about a neighbour that was feeding her son's cat .. her reasons were this, she couldn't afford the type of food that the neighbour gave to the cat, the cat was a piglet too and got grossly overweight .. my friend moved and the cat then went to the new neighbours looking for food. In the end the cat got fat and moved in with the neighbours .. who moved and took the cat with them, they knew the cat wasn't theirs, they knew who the cat belonged too ... but took her anyway, so therefore upsetting the son of my friend immensly ... Is that fair? Check with the owners if it's okay to feed their animal or get your own.

I agree. Depends on the state of the cat and whether you're willing to commit to something you might start, such as feeding it every day. In my opinion if you're feeding a cat every day, either take it as your own or it's kinder not to form the habit to begin with, especially when you have no idea where it's visiting from or any medical history. My cat was dumped as a kitten, I took her in and she's been a part of the family ever since. Dearly loved, healthy, very happy and never strays from home.

depends on the situation, if the cat is really hungry it's good ,but that cat will come back to you everyday. are you happy to feed every day. No it,s not fair.

We were very upset to find out that someone was feeding our cat, because she was already over weight, and suffering from diabetes. We were trying our best to keep her on a strict diet, but because she would get food else where she unfortunately became very unwell, and very sadly had to be put to sleep. if you see a cat- give it a pat and a cuddle... but don't feed it, especially if you don't know its background.

I go out early hours every morning feeding the strays.
a couple of other cats are owned, but we have bonded. I give them a small bit of Fussy Cat. I see no harm.

Don't ever feel guilty for that. It is hard to see an animal suffering but it may have been old or very ill. You did your best and it was up to the owners to look after it. We have a cat here who is skinny but at 14 does have problems putting on weight despite worming and heaps of feeding. Just feel good about the fact that you did try. .

We had someone do that to us but in our case the cats were very healthy.( solid muscle and 6kgs) One decided to not come home and even after numerous pleas with the person feeding it, she still didn't stop. As a result, it became very overweight and when we went to move, she wouldn't let us take her. In saying that however, the cat may be skinny due to worms or old age. The best thing you can do is talk to the owner and try and get the whole story. If it turns out the cat is not elderly or sick, try worming it and keep feeding it if necessary. You will find though as we did when we had a stray that it will end up staying with you. If you're happy for that to happen and the owner genuinely doesn't care for it, then there will be no problem.

thank you for your reply ,i stopped feeding the cat ,but i had not seen it for a few days ,so i found out from one of my neighbours that it had since died ..this upset me a lot as i should not have stopped feeding it,but i was told not to feed it if it belong to some one else ,and now i feel like it was my fault that the cat died.

have u thought about finding the owner and seeing why its so skinny, i persoanlly wouldnt want to feed someone elses animal as then it would b on my doorstep all the time, but if u feel that its not bein treated right then continue to do so, or go and take it to a vet and get it checked over and see if they think its melnourished, its sad when owners dont take care of there pets properly, so if u dont mind doin it then continue to do so
