I suffer extreme pain from bulging discs in my back. Does anyone have the same problem and do you have a magic cure to lessen the pain?

I've had the same thing for 30 years, chiropractor helped a bit, he ended up using traction. That was the only thing that he did that was effective for any length of time.
Try a new natural product, curcumin, an extract from the spice tumeric. Reduces swelling and pain. Is only temporary, but is harmless, and has other health benefits.

I also suffer chronic back pain due to osteoporosis. I have found that regular acupuncture treatment helps. We are lucky that our GP believes in alternative therapies and is an accredited acupuncturist.
My wife also suffers due to a back injury and has found the acupuncture helps. The main thing is that you need regular treatments and to ensure that the person you go to is accredited with a recognised association.

I've had bulging discs for about 6 years now, I go to a physio and get monthly massages. Reducing muscle tension and and strengthening supporting muscles is key.

I had my back operated on 20 years ago for prolapse of the spine with L1,L2 & L3 affected.Barely move without agony before the operation. No magic cure but kept moving and kept active after the operation.Went back to ballroom dancing and found that this strengthened up my back and had fun too. Some things i do have to be careful with but medication is for migraines and not the back.

Thanks for your comments, yes I am on a lot of painkillers for my back and for migraine. I do walk a little everyday but it is agony. If I ever was granted one wish from a genie it would be to rid myself of pain because money couldn't buy a pain free existence!!!

sorry to hear chiropractor didnt work. The trouble with pain killers the body gets used to them and they are no longer effective. What i had to do was lose weight learn to sleep on my back as sleeping on your side or tummy puts the spine out of alignment and try not to sit down to much as sitting as they are just finding out is causing an epidemic of back pain i know i am guilty of that as i love my computer but now am very concious of how i sit and how long i sit.I truly hope you find an answer to your problem.Jan

Hi
Thanks for your response. Yes I have tried this and it's good for a couple of days and then it is worst than before, don't know why!

I am immune to most painkillers (except pethidine, whilst in hosp). I had first op in 89. Last one a couple of years ago. If there is a way to fix it without the op, go for it. Everyone is different. Op was the only way to fix mine. Nothing else worked. I am a lot better off now than I was. I would try all options before the op, and always make sure if you have the op, that you completely check out the surgeon. Good luck.

I've tried everything. Physio, osteopath, pain clinic, hydro, meditation etc...so I'm getting desperate. The pain is so bad and the pain killers don't seem to help much. So thanks for your insight!

I injured my back in the Army, had discs fused, and a small plate inserted to keep discs together. Later had plate removed and bow have rods screwed into my back. Still experience pain but only rarely compared to what it was. Have to live with it and take painkillers for the rest of my life, but a lot better than what it was.

I have spoken to people that have had the operation and they have said it didn't work. So it is great to hear that maube this is still an option! I'm currently taking 16 prescription painkillers a day and I'm scared about what that is doing to my body. Did you have the operation done recently?
