I am an over 50's female. I have previously had a serious reaction to black cohosh when taking a multivitamin. I wondered if any one in this forum could advise me of a good multivitamin to take that does not contain black cohosh,as I am unable to take it due to the side effects that I will more than likely have again. This ingredient is probably great for other multivitamin consumers but unfortunately not suitable for me, any advice would be appreciated!

my opinion and the opinion of a lot of others is multi-vites are a waste of money if you are fit and healthy.if you have any vitamin defiencies or you feel tired all the time, consult your doctor, who will get a blood test done for you to see.if deficient he can also prescibe you the vitamins you needs.taking extra pills for all sorts of ailments has been very popular over the past ten years or so.do not be fooled by advertising, another thing is with these tablets, you can overdose and become very ill.especially vit c

Thankyou for all of your replies! It is difficult to buy an over 50's all round vitamin for women without black cohash, and I would also prefer a vitamin that contains selenium (not sure of the spelling) as I think this is also highly beneficial, and lacking in foods consumed in Australia. I am not looking for a menopause medication simply a good alround vitamin which contains selenium, and due to my very frightening health scare, definitely does not contain black cohash. Thanks once more for all of your good advice!

For those who take Black Cohosh as a herb, by choice & have "side effects". As a homeopath, I have heard this before. Homeopathic Cimicifuga is made with Black Cohosh, a "regulating" potency, rather than the crude drug which causes good and bad effects. I have had a few doses many years ago, & since then no longer had the headaches, rib pains of decades duration. See someone who knows what they're doing, i.e. qualified practitioner.

For those who want a multivitamin without.. Over the counter vitamins often have so little in them, they are not worth the money. Again, get professional advice.

I work with natural products and the best I have found and one that is very safe to use is 'MACA' .

Have you tried MacaActive. Unlike Black Cohash this is a non-estrogenic herb for hormonal imbalances.
