brown runs this country with the rest of his green buddies, i just wish people would use some common sense and totally ignore the rantings of these idiots and hopefully come the next election people will remember who is responsible for the mess this country is now in, and vote out the green scum and those independents that are also fully responsible for ruining a great country. i really dont blame gillard , she is just the puppet up front

The greens fooled a lot of people who thought they were just "nice tree hugging - save the forrests" people but oooh now they have the Senate in their cluthes they are going to scew us all with all their might. If they get through any of their policies this country will be broke and needing rescue by the IMF. We cannot power a country our size on a handful of wind mills and solar panels (there would have to be thousands of them). If there is no coal fired power stations what will produce the electricity we need to "power" this modern country of ours. The greens wont even consider any options other than the ones that they want. The awful grin on bob brown's face (and his party members) sends shivers down my spine - he has waited a long time to push his unrealistic beliefs on the rest of us without really thinking about he consequences. Our only hope is to go to an election, get rid of the lunatics and get this country back on track.

Hi maggie12 Unfortunately the "puppet" is doing a very bad job as PM and seems to me she is more interested in her own interests than what we the people have to say. As for Bob Brown - probably the most dangerous person in this government (he is calling the shots)and the greens (I wont give them a capital G) have policies that will send this country broke. Some of the things they are "passionate" about are just plain stupid and will do nothing to the benefit of the people of this country (unless you are a green voter). Watching Bob on tv during the gruelling of Allen Joyce, and the way he spoke to Allen was nothing more than disgraceful. Bob is weilding his power and has his nose in everything. Sarah Hansen Young is another twit green - her wanting a more comfortable and easier passage for ayslum seekers to come here is just madness. She wants to just "bring them all here." Has she considered how this country is going to feed, house, educate and everything else these people get when our own needy, sick and elderly get nothing. These people learn very quickly how to get what they want and even complain about what they are given. If they were truly refugees they would be grateful for anything, but no, and our government just keeps on giving taxpayers money to foreigners. We have to have an early election to get this government out.

Natural. Greenland was green 1000 years ago when the vikings arrived. Then it slowly iced up and now its going green again. Go figure. Politicians are using their usual scare mongering tactics to tax our butts. They can't tax the air we breathe so they will tax the air we exhale :) It is JUST a money grabbing exercise, nothing else.

I don not feel Carbon Tax ..... climate change is relevant. all records show whatever the weather there has been an alternative result. Definately a natural progression in my opinion

Oh if only the poloticians were as wise as us! - they dont want to believe that carbon is not the problem they make it out to be. The more I listen to what is going to happen if this tax is passed the more worried I am. The fact that we will be buying carbon credits so we can polute is beyond me??? Fancy paying some unknown a great deal of money to buy credits. I have heard that these credits will be offered by people from countries that have a reputation for being less than honest and will cost billions and as you say will do nothing to reduce carbon. This Gillard government is just hell bent on forcing yet another debarcle on us. The only credit this government can brag about is just how many booboos they have made and how many billions it has cost. We need saving from this out of control government.

thanks for your kind words CAT17, I am a member of a political political party and have been for 20 or so years. I have fought many battles with other members of the party and members of parliament to implement educational programs to become a greener nation. I tell you its a hard slog and doesn't win you many friends for it is far easier to ignore a thing than to do something about it. If everyone does their bit to become a little greener voluntarily we will go a long way to not cause any long term harm to our planet. This Carbon tax is nothing but grandstanding by Julia to stay in government. I am convinced that non of the three stooges independents will regain their seats. If history is any guide I look to the unholy alliance a few years ago between the greens and the socialist party ended in disaster in 2006 if I remember correctly.

CAT, you are sooo right. Amongst other research I have done on this I have found this.
By Julia's own figures state the CO2 in air has risen from .034% to .038% in 50 years.
Assuming this...

Hi paradox! Now you should be advising Julia and Bob and put them straight on the amount of "pollution" we are supposedly causing to the atmosphere. These pollies have no idea what hardship they are imposing on all of us by their bloody mindedness and the unbelievable "expert advisers" they have listened to. Seems to me that we have a government who is weak and are allowing the wishes of another fundamentalist type party demand to have their way and even to my way of thinking holding us all to ransom.

WRONG!! - There are many different types of volcanos and most of them produce very little climate warming polution. READ the SCIENCE!

Daveo, I do read the Science, but unlike you I also read THE Science that has alternatives and do not denigrate any Science to suit my purpose. For instance the alternative of wind driven generators and solar power.
The maximum size wind generator is 3 Megawatts, which can rarely be attained on a continuous basis because it requires substantial forces of wind. And for the same reason only generate when there is sufficient wind to drive them. This of course depends where they are located but usually they only run for 45% -65% of the time, mostly well below maximum capacity. They cannot be relied on for a 'base load ‘because they are too variable.
As for solar power generation much research has been done over the decades and there are two types.
Solar thermal generation and Solar Electric generation but in each case they cannot generate large amounts of electricity. We simply do not have the technology to produce Carbon neutral energy.
I am a green person at heart, but I am a realist and use what intelligence god gave me to reduce mine and my family's footprint on this wonderful planet.

Carbon is entirely natural and governments should not be playing on the emotions of the public so they can bring in a tax. The climate has gone through many many changes and will do so many more...

CAT, you are sooo right. Amongst other research I have done on this I have found this.
By Julia's own figures state the CO2 in air has risen from .034% to .038% in 50 years.
Assuming this is correct, the world CO2 has increased in 50 years by...004%.
Per year that is .004 divided by 50 = ...00008%. (Getting confusing -but stay with me).
Of that because we only contribute 1% our emissions would cause CO2 to rise .00008 divided by 100 =...0000008%.
Of that 1%, we supposedly emit, the governments wants to reduce it by 20% which is 1/5th of .0000008 =...00000016% effect per year they would have on the world CO2 emissions based on their own figures.

You are correct Boysie, but you can't tax volcanos and the bush :) One day we will get a government that isn't self serving, listens to the people and remembers that they are "Public Servants" not the other way around. Can't wait. At the moment we are just seen as one big brainless "cash cow" where they can push their own agendas and get us to pay for it.

Hey CAt, it is good to see that there are at least some people with good common sence. I completely agree with your post, well done.

Hi Evlcreture and thanks for your comments. It is a subject that I am concerned about and just wish that the Government would stop their determination to force a tax on us that will bring hardship to so many. As for alternative green power I just cant see how you can "power" a country our size with wind and solar panels! Not to mention spoiling our beautiful country side with great big turbines whooshing around and ugly panels all over houses. Real estate agents are saying solar panels put people off buying a house that has them!

Perhaps taking a little of your own advice, would be appropriate. in all of the polloution, carbon or otherwise, SCIENCE says that man is responsable for UP TO 2% per annum, even if we stopped producing every bit of carbon that we produce, the effect IF ANY, would not be felt for at least 1000 years. The earth goes through cycles just like the one it is going through now, after coming out of a mini ICE AGE, it is going to get warmer. I wonder what they will come up with when it starts to cool down again?? Belive it or not human beings are not the centre of the universe, and we cant change everything to suit our pathetic selves.

Carbon is entirely natural and governments should not be playing on the emotions of the public so they can bring in a tax. The climate has gone through many many changes and will do so many more times. This is a living planet so ofcourse there will be climate change. I am sure humans put some polutants into the air, but in a country like Australia the amount is minute compared to other "dirty" countries. We dont have acid rain here like they do in parts of Europe. We have wide open spaces with no factories or people etc. so the polution that is caused is soon dispersed. Why this government only listens to the scientists who say what they want to hear and not have an open debate on carbon and the climate is beyond me. Politics is doing more harm to this country than any carbon!
