Recently the Opposition leader was referred to as "Tony Abbot and his goons".
Why is it that the leader of this country accepts, and how can we be expected to show respect to our elected representatives of all politics when they are allowed to be called GOONS by opposing politicians? Do we really accept this behaviour and condone the attitude shown by current Government members and their Independents and Greens support MPs?

Have you ever noticed how politicians of one particular party routinely refer to their party colleagues by Christian name but invariably refer to their opposition by Surname with added snarl?

It's designed to get into the psyche. And the guilty party's supporters will vacantly and mechanically claim that they are innocent of this behaviour - the other party uses the tactic.

Then do the figures yourself. You know - do your own research. For once, don't listen to the party machine and what you WANT to hear (members and supporters of that party are so beguiled that they will be unable to perform an unbiased analysis and incapable of accepting the unbiased results)

None of them deserve respect, they're all politicians. Don't you know that the faeces always floats to the top.

I agree peanuts = monkeys. I can remember when the debates in the house were entertaining, the repartee stimulating and the wittiness of the protagonists was biting but extremely clever. The main thing was that most of our politicians were great friends outside the Parliament and they had Australias best interest at heart. I think it all started deteriorating was when Paul Keating slagged of his opposition and the result is name calling, inane debate and vicious name calling. I hope the Opposition Pollies realise we are a bit fed up with their negativity. Grow some cohones and stick up for Australia.

Whilst Politicians are indeed a cut below the rest u must remember if you pay peanuts u get monkeys. Politics is a low paid public sector job in terms of being compared to big business so if we paid more would we get better....??

It's an insult to all goons. What have they done to be called Abbotts?

Probably because he is the MAJOR GOON, and if all people refer to the goon everybody starts with (and usually) ends with abbot

I listened to Parliament the other day on ABC Radio and for ten minutes I thought it was the Goon Show. But then Abbott gave it away when fluffed his lines with a pathetic Spike Milligan impersonation.

Sammbo I sometimes lisiten to Parliament on the radio, and I agree it does sound like the Goons. I think the attitude of the current Government is spot on, well not so much with all of them, but tony abbot is the biggest goon out, and then we have the meowing fiasco, WHAT do you expect, you have to show some respect before you get some respect.................
