4 way Stop Signs Ahhhhh

Got in a Mexican stand off at a four way stop signs.
4 of us got there pretty much the same time. 4 of us sitting there looking at each other. 4 of us inching forward. 1 of us finally stuck his head out the car and said "I'll wait...you go first".
Most stupid Road Authority initiative I have ever seen in relation to road signs. What kind of a genius dreamed that one up.
Surely it's not rocket science to figure out which of the cross roads has the least traffic. I know at this intersection, one is a medium density road and the other smaller residental access. Gee, that was hard.
I think perhaps it time to put new bottoms in seats. Then again, it may be a case of better the devil you know.
Cheers, Maria

Sounds like they are fairly polite... I hate to say it but there are most that would simply say I'm going through and stuff you.
I have yet to find an intersection that has a 4 way stop sign situation. We may have them in WA, but I haven't come across one yet... but to be honest I think that may stop some of the carnage. If there is a 4 way stop sign at some of our black spot intersections, it may save lives.
I grew up in SA and have driven a lot in Vic and NSW but have found that WA drivers are mostly territorial, aggressive and exhibit the most stupidest road rage I have experienced from any of the states I have driven in.
If you make moves to change change lanes most WA drivers will accelerate to stop you from moving over...but there are a lot that will let you in... but if there is enough space, surely that would be the best alternative.
So, my concern would be with a 4 way stop sign in WA is that no driver would give an inch. Even if they saw someone had entered first, I wonder if they would given in or risk a collision...sadly I think the collision would be what would happen.
