What makes your home a home?

A recent study released by IKEA revealed that homes don't always feel like home, and some people reported feeling more at home in their cars. Does your home feel like home? What makes it like that? And if you don't feel at home there, why not? Where do you feel most at home?

MikeT says: What makes our home ours the fact that it's ours (well, mostly ours). Having lived in staff accommodation for close to 30 years, it was a relief to move into our investment home. We moved again however because the area wasn't the best, but we only moved across town. It was great to be able to set up a dedicated room for our birds after they shared space in family rooms in staff houses. It's also homely to be able to set up the house and yard the way we wish, without the restrictions imposed by living in employer's houses. There is a degree of pride in living in your own which is quite different to living in staff housing, no matter how attractive the houses might have been.
