I think one of the bigger concerns is that this is a thinly disguised way to increase income. Sure the environment is the main consideration or should be but the stores have gone through the range of gouging more money from people and this is yet another aspect of that. Office works was one of the first when you spent an inordinate amount of money in their store they then under the guise of environmental concern sweetly asked if you would like to buy a bag to carry the ("in access of $100 worth") from their store, (which you chose to shop in). Extra income, less expense of doing business,......So whats next? When we buy milk will we have to supply our own containers to be refilled? It is not a big leap to expect paid parking at shopping centres next.....seeing as you cant park anywhere with out paying now. I wholeheartedly support the protection of the environment but they are replacing plastic bags with plastic bags that are thicker and are charging us for it when in the past they charged us for it by hiding the charge of bags in the retail pricing of goods sold. Now we actually buy a product to buy products from the product seller we give our business to. I would rather buy the bags direct from environmental protection organizations and see a reduction in retail prices due to the shops no longer providing bags to sell the goods they make money from selling. This is not an environmental strategy, just as the recycling of household waste wasnt either - i wonder where the recycled materials go and at what price paid and who gets it and what is it used for? Transparent government would itemise all of this and show us what our combined efforts and good intentions actually produce.....transparent government , now theres a contradiction in terms!
