I;ve asked around why are the fuel prices up and down by up to 12cents at any one time?
Maybe someone can advise me why this happens?

Agree with this. It's just greed & the 'because we can' attitude.
I use the NSW gov't (Fair Trading) fuelwatch site/app. It makes a great difference, especially on trips. I can check local prices, the price where I'm going & in between - then work out where to fill. I've had time where there was 20c/litre difference between Parramatta & Goulburn. With enough fuel to cover the trip down, I fill there.
