Home Brand vs Named Brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

I use both homebrands and labels. There is often not much difference. With specials sometimes Brand names can be cheaper during the period of the special compared to homebrands. Currently Coles & Woolworths have raised the price of their BBQ which I buy a lot from $7.90/$8 to $9 but Woollie upper brand and Lilydale bbq chickens have been lowered from $13 to $10. I have tried the $10 ones and there is a difference that I like. The hombrands had been $11 for along time with the occasional special at $7.50/$8. Lines on the shelves do alter with some brands not available at both supermarket stores. It is odd that there is a space on the shelf with a line out of stock or removed these days. A case in point though is Balfours Family Meat Pie that was $8 and on special from time to time at $5 or $4(dinner plate size). The last Woollies sale was $4 and I was prepared to buy a box(6 pies) but they were out of stock at my store during the sal and I got a raincheck which has now expired although they would have renewed it. But it turns out some stores did not actually stock it and all other I tried were out of stock and had a Angus pie available that was dearer. Now it turns out they are not stocking it anymore(my store had said it was a low seller in there, opposite my home) but I loved them with its potato topping and got several meals from them with other vegies etc. I have been in the grocery business with my own stores and sold lots of imported foods and foods from smaller Australian producers whose stock then was not sold in the majors.
