Hi Everyone,

I read on the RAA website newsletter, that from July 1st, there will no longer the option for 9 or 6 months...

They are only keeping 3 & 12 months! Gee as if people are not doing it stuff, I'm glad they didn't take the 3 month option, as that would bugger me right up, It's hard enough keeping a car on the road as it is!

With that I guess they will put up the registration in the June budget!

whats's next?

cheers for taking the time to read this

Registration used to go up in SA at the beginning of September, only days before ours was due. The often delayed sending out our account and if you enquired in advance they couldn't or wouldn't tell you how much it would be. Too bad if you were going away for a holiday before the bill arrived. I personally know a person who wrote a cheque for their trailer registration as they were using it to go away for a break. When they took it to the Registration Branch they were told that the bill had just been issued and the fees had gone up. They offered to use the cheque and pay the balance in cash as they were leaving the next morning and they were told they couldn't do that. They didn't have the cheque book with them or enough cash on them to pay the whole bill in cash and there was no bank in the vicinity. Eventually in desperation they ask to see the manager who told them that they had no right to ask to see him. Things got a little heated and the customer reminded the manage that their taxes etc. paid his wages. He accepted the cheque and cash, then complained about having to issue the registration sticker then instead of a few days later. Now they are saying that the onus is on the owner or driver of the vehicle to ensure that it is registered. Notices do not always arrive on time and there has been fines issued. Many people do not carry registration papers in their cars in case it is stolen or damamged in some way in which it is destroyed. Therefore if another person drives it they have to rely on the owner being honest when replying that the vehicle is registered, and they lie, if they are caught driving it they get fined. The SA Police can do spot checks via the "computer" in their cars but it takes a few days for the details of payment to reach Police records.
